Nuzhat Fatema
My name is Nuzhat Fatema Hassanali and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I have completed my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I also have a postgraduate diploma in Addictions and Mental Health Counselling, as well as a Bachelors Degree in Psychology.
I am an immigrant to Canada and have lived in three different continents (East Africa, East Asia, and North America). Throughout my journey thus far and interactions with various local communities, I have witnessed the stigma surrounding mental health especially amongst South Asian Muslims. Therefore, I am passionate about providing culturally responsive therapy and working towards dispelling such stigmas. I am also enthusiastic about working with children and youth within the education system to provide them with tools to build resilience and promote mental wellbeing.
I use an integrative and relational approach to therapy and believe that each individual is unique and resilient and capable of attaining their highest potential. I have extensive experience in working with teenagers, young adults, couples, parents, immigrants, international students and have worked with other demographic groups as well. Through my experience, I specialize in working a range of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, stress management, family dynamics, self-esteem, life transitions, parenting and others.
In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, travelling and spending time with family and close friends!
